Spectrum monitoring and surveillance for security forces and intelligence agencies

Spectrum surveillance helps identify potential threats

Monitoring the use of wireless communications is a key element of the analysis and assessment of potential security threats. By identifying the location and signal characteristics of illegal or suspicious transmitters, and detecting unusual patterns of radio transmissions, spectrum monitoring can provide crucial intelligence to mitigate a specific risk. Long term trend analysis can be used to build pictures and patterns of usage and use these to trigger alarms when patterns change.

CRFS’ solutions address both tactical and strategic needs

CRFS RFeye Monitoring Systems are based around distributed networks of intelligent, rugged, low cost, low power, RFeye fixed and mobile monitoring nodes.

Data collected can then be managed and analysed using our powerful Spectrum Management System software to provide an accurate, detailed picture of spectrum usage across a wide geographic area.

Nodes may be programmed to autonomously collect data and trigger alarms if specific signals are detected in a local area. The same concept can be used for border and perimeter monitoring, identifying radio transmissions at the periphery of critical installations or territories which could potentially indicate the presence of intruders or unauthorised transmission from within a controlled area.

Key features and benefits of CRFS’ approach:

  • Flexible, powerful signal surveillance and analysis using distributed monitoring networks and powerful centralised network management, data management and data analysis tools
  • Interactive control of sub-nets of monitoring nodes for assessment of specific threats
  • Monitoring of frequencies assigned to security and emergency forces to confirm they are clear and free from interference from criminal or terrorist agents
  • Border and perimeter monitoring of critical locations
  • Fingerprinting/background monitoring: 24/7 monitoring of spectrum usage
  • Identification and location of illegal or covert transmissions using signal characterisation / demodulation and Direction Finding (AOA & TDOA) options
  • Flexible monitoring network deployment: rugged, low power, low cost RFeye nodes deployable in fixed and/or mobile monitoring nets. Autonomous operation and intelligent data acquisition.
  • Flexible integration with existing systems
