Regulatory Applications

Spectrum monitoring and management for spectrum regulators and spectrum users

Spectrum is a scarce resource and regulating its use is a growing problem

All users of spectrum have a shared interest in ensuring that spectrum is effectively managed, interference issues are promptly resolved, and any shared spectrum is efficiently policed. Also, it is becoming increasingly more important that spectrum policy decisions are informed by evidence of real spectrum use.

CRFS’ solutions provide a complete picture of spectrum usage

CRFS RFeye Monitoring Systems are based around distributed networks of intelligent, rugged, low cost, low power, RFeye fixed and mobile monitoring nodes.

Data collected can then be managed and analysed using our powerful Spectrum Management System software to provide an accurate, detailed picture of spectrum usage across a wide geographic area.

CRFS can collect the data on your behalf

As an alternative to users collecting data themselves, CRFS’ flexible business model allows customers to subscribe to the CRFS Spectrum Database containing data from CRFS' own monitoring networks.

A further option is for CRFS to provide customers with a managed service, or perform a specific survey campaign to fulfil a specific requirement.

Key features and benefits of CRFS’ approach:

  • Flexible, powerful spectrum surveillance and analysis using distributed monitoring networks and powerful centralised data management/analysis tools
  • Cost effective visualisation of nationwide spectrum usage, and analysis of long-term trends
  • Comprehensive spectrum usage information to inform spectrum policy making and confirm spectrum is ‘clear’ ahead of spectrum auctions
  • Coverage verification and ‘not spot’ identification for Mobile Network Operators and Broadcasters
  • Confirmation that frequencies assigned to security and emergency forces are clear and available for use when required
  • Identification of interference or spectrum conflicts, including verification of channel assignments and power levels
  • Signal characterisation / demodulation, and location identification using Direction Finding (AOA & TDOA) options
  • Flexible deployment: rugged, low power, low cost RFeye nodes deployable in fixed and/or mobile monitoring nets. Autonomous operation and intelligent data acquisition
  • Flexible integration with management information systems and licensing databases
